Mazda Scores Many Awards at Grand-Am Gala

While the new Mazda lineup continues to impress drivers everywhere, it's also making a big name for itself on the Grand-Am racing circuit, too. Recently, the year-end awards ceremony for the 2013 Rolex Grand-Am GX series was held in NYC, and Mazda cleaned up in many categories.

The big one was winning the Manufacturers Championship, as Mazda tallied nine wins using Mazda6 vehicles built for racing in a season of many firsts. Those included being the first diesel-powered model to compete in the Grand-Am, the first diesel to win a Grand-Am event, and the first diesel ever to win at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

It's all thanks to the SKYACTIV-D engine that is found on the Mazda6, which gives the vehicle added performance and efficiency while not sacrificing power numbers, as you can plainly see with the amount of victories the racing team racked up.

Individually, Mazda driver Joel Miller won the Monticello Motorsport Club Grand-Am Rookie of the Year award, while teammate Tom Long earned seven pole finishes, which netted him the TOTAL Performance Lubricants Pole Award.
